Our specific focus within the wider range of training opportunities offered by the diocese is to provide ministerial formation rooted in both sound theological learning and practical ministerial experience in local churches and mission contexts, so that people are equipped for ministry in the contemporary world.
Students studying with YSOM come from many different church traditions, social backgrounds and with a wide variety of academic and life experience. This diversity of Christian experience makes for a stimulating learning environment where all, staff and students alike, can learn from each other. We pride ourselves on the support we give to our students, making higher education accessible to people with a range of abilities and educational backgrounds. |
"I have been studying with YSOM for a year – on the Certificate Programme. It’s the first time I’ve picked up academic learning in a long time – but it has given me such a thirst to learn again, and to learn more. It’s also made me so very aware of how many gaps there are in my journey of faith of over 30 years. I’ve met (sadly only virtually) some great people and the conversations we’ve had have challenged my thinking, my theology and to some extent the way I live my life. All my learning has been virtual due to the Covid pandemic but it has been so well organised, varied and comprehensive that studying at home has been made easy for me. With supportive and encouraging tutors, I’m growing, learning and enjoying! If you want to explore your faith further, go that little bit deeper and understand in greater depth what it means today, this is a great place to start." Janet, York |
"It’s no exaggeration for me to say how life changing it has been for me to attend the YSOM. I began at level 4 doubtful of my academic abilities, and worried I’d be found out! But the accessibility of the staff has been reassuring, and provision of great tutors has made the whole learning process far easier. |
